It is a fair question and worth answering honestly. For most people the benefits of diagnosis significantly outweigh any disadvantages. However there are a few things worth knowing. Some insurance products — including certain life insurance and income protection policies — may ask about mental health diagnoses. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition rather than a mental illness, and its impact on insurance varies by provider and policy — it is worth checking your existing policies before proceeding. For driving, see the DVLA question above. For employment, the Equality Act 2010 protects employees with ADHD from discrimination and requires reasonable adjustments — a diagnosis strengthens your legal position rather than weakening it. For most people, the clarity, access to support, and treatment that comes with diagnosis makes a significant positive difference to work, relationships, and mental health. If you have specific concerns about how a diagnosis might affect your circumstances, we are happy to discuss them before you book.
