Harley Mind Care

Safeguarding at Harley Mind Care

Our commitment

Harley Mind Care Psychiatrists Ltd (“HMC”) is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk in everything we do. We follow the statutory frameworks set out in the Children Act 1989 and 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the Prevent Duty under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. Our staff are trained to the appropriate Intercollegiate Safeguarding Competencies for their role and have a duty to raise concerns whenever they see or suspect abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Safeguarding sits at the heart of how we work, not as a separate process. Every clinical and administrative interaction is an opportunity to listen, to notice, and to act.

Who we safeguard

  • Children and young people — everyone aged under 18.
  • Adults at risk — any adult who has needs for care and support, is experiencing or at risk of abuse or neglect, and is unable to protect themselves because of those needs (Care Act 2014, s.42).

How to raise a safeguarding concern

If a child, young person or adult is in immediate danger

Call 999 straight away. Do not wait to contact us.

If you have a concern that is not an emergency

You can:

  • Contact our safeguarding leads directly (details below). We will listen, take the concern seriously, and act on it — including, where appropriate, sharing the information with statutory partners.
  • Contact the relevant local authority Safeguarding team. To find yours, go to gov.uk — report abuse or gov.uk — report child abuse to your local council.
  • Contact one of the national lines listed below.

You do not need to be certain to raise a concern. You do not need to know who to tell — just tell someone.

What we do when a concern is raised

  • We listen, take the concern seriously, and record it carefully.
  • We respond — including, where statutory thresholds are met, by referring to the local authority or police, with or without consent if necessary to protect the person.
  • We share information on a need-to-know basis under the Caldicott Principles and the common law duty of confidentiality, balancing the duty to share with the duty to protect.
  • We support the person who raised the concern, and the person at risk.
  • We learn — every safeguarding concern feeds into our clinical governance and training.
