About Dr Gayathri Gnanasekaram

Dr Gayathri Gnanasekaram is a Consultant Psychiatrist currently working in the Psychiatry Liaison Team at Yeovil District Hospital. She is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and holds specialist registration in General Adult Psychiatry with a sub-specialty endorsement in Psychiatry Liaison. Dr Gnanasekaram has extensive experience in psychiatric liaison, community mental health, inpatient psychiatry, and early intervention in psychosis. She has worked across a range of settings including acute hospitals, community mental health teams, and forensic psychiatry.

Dr Gnanasekaram has completed core psychiatry training and has trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Narrative Exposure Therapy. She is currently pursuing a two-year Cognitive Analytic Therapy Practitioner Programme, which she anticipates completing in 2025. She has led and presented on quality improvement projects and service evaluations, including a service evaluation on the Mental Health Rapid Response Vehicle in Somerset and a national audit on sodium valproate screening.

She has a strong commitment to teaching and supervision, having supervised junior doctors, foundation trainees, and psychiatry trainees. Dr Gnanasekaram has also led Balint groups and peer-led training programs. Her clinical interests include the interface between mental and physical health, complex capacity assessments, and the management of high-risk patients. She is actively involved in clinical governance and has presented at regional and international conferences.
