Private ADHD Assessment for Children in the UK

NHS waiting lists for child ADHD assessments can be really long in some parts of the UK. For a child who is struggling at school at home or with friends waiting that long is just not an option. That’s why Harley Mind Care offers ADHD assessments for children giving families fast access to a thorough evaluation by a consultant. They will get a written report that schools, GPs, local authorities and insurers will accept.

Who Carries Out Child ADHD Assessments?

At Harley Mind Care, child and adolescent ADHD assessments are done by consultant child psychiatrists and paediatricians. These doctors have training in assessing and treating neurodevelopmental conditions in children and young people. Every assessment is carried out by a clinician, not a trainee.

What Does a Child ADHD Assessment Involve?

A thorough child ADHD assessment involves getting information from sources. We talk to the child their parents or carers and their school or educational setting.

Clinical Interview

The assessment process at Harley Mind Care starts with a clinical interview with parents or carers. We cover the childs history, current symptoms and how they affect daily life at home and school. We also talk directly to the child.

Validated Rating Scales

We use rating scales completed by parents and teachers like the Conners 4 assessment tool. This helps us understand attention, hyperactivity, impulsivity and associated difficulties across settings. ADHD symptoms must be present in than one setting, which is why teacher input is crucial.

Differential Diagnosis

We carefully consider the clinical picture, including conditions like anxiety learning difficulties sleep disorders and autism. These can all present with symptoms that overlap with ADHD in children.

Comprehensive Report

The assessment concludes with a written diagnostic report. This report is suitable for sharing with the childs school, GP, insurer and local authority.

What Happens After Diagnosis?

If ADHD is confirmed and medication is recommended we discuss the options with parents and carers in detail. We explain the evidence base, the titration process and what to expect in terms of monitoring and review.

If the childs GP is willing to enter into a shared care agreement we facilitate this process. This enables medication management to be transferred to the NHS. We also discuss -pharmacological approaches, including parenting strategies, school accommodations and psychological therapies.
