HARLEY MIND CARE PSYCHIATRISTS
Private ADHD Assessment London
If you are struggling to get an ADHD assessment through the NHS. Or simply cannot wait. A private assessment in London gives you access to a senior consultant psychiatrist, a thorough clinical evaluation and a full written diagnostic report. At Harley Mind Care, based at 10 Harley Street we provide ADHD assessments for adults that’re clinically rigorous delivered by experienced consultants and accepted by GPs, employers and insurers across the UK. We offer ADHD assessments.
What does a private ADHD assessment involve?
A private ADHD assessment at Harley Mind Care is a clinical evaluation conducted by a consultant psychiatrist. It is not a questionnaire or a tick-box exercise. The ADHD assessment typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. Covers the following areas.
Clinical Interview
We begin with a clinical interview exploring your history of ADHD symptoms, attention difficulties, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Both in childhood and as an adult. ADHD is a condition meaning its origins are in early development and understanding your ADHD history is essential to an accurate ADHD diagnosis.
Validated Rating Scales
We use rating scales, including the Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scale and the ADHD Self-Report Scale to systematically assess your ADHD symptoms against recognised diagnostic criteria. We also gather history where possible. Accounts from people who knew you in childhood, such as a parent or sibling. As this provides important context for ADHD diagnosis.
Differential Diagnosis
We consider diagnoses carefully. Anxiety, depression, sleep disorders and thyroid conditions can all present with symptoms that overlap with ADHD symptoms. A thorough psychiatric assessment ensures your ADHD diagnosis is accurate and that any co-occurring conditions are identified.
Comprehensive Report
Following the ADHD assessment we produce a written report that includes our clinical findings, ADHD diagnosis where appropriate and a personalised treatment and management plan for ADHD.
Who carries out the assessment?
All ADHD assessments at Harley Mind Care are conducted by consultant psychiatrists. Medical doctors with specialist postgraduate training in psychiatry. We do not use trainees. Locum clinicians for diagnostic assessments. You will be seen by a clinician who understands the nuances of adult ADHD presentation and is familiar with the standards required by NHS services, insurers and employers for ADHD.
What happens after diagnosis?
If ADHD is confirmed and medication is clinically indicated your first prescription is provided at no cost. We work with pharmacies to ensure your ADHD medication reaches you promptly.
We can arrange a Shared Care Agreement with your GP enabling your ADHD medication to be managed on the NHS going forward. This removes the cost of private prescriptions for the majority of patients though GP acceptance of shared care agreements does vary and we always recommend discussing this with your GP in advance.
If medication is not indicated or if you prefer a -pharmacological approach we discuss structured strategies for ADHD and where appropriate refer you to psychological therapies for ADHD.
Your full written report is provided following the ADHD assessment. Is suitable for submission to your GP, employer, DVLA, insurer or any other professional body requiring formal documentation of your ADHD diagnosis.
Do I need a GP referral for ADHD?
No. You can self-refer to Harley Mind Care without a GP referral. Simply book online at harleymindcare.com. Call us on 020 7047 8888. We do recommend letting your GP know you are seeking an ADHD assessment as this supports continuity of care and facilitates shared care arrangements following ADHD diagnosis.
How much does an ADHD assessment cost?
Our adult ADHD assessment starts from £800 for an appointment lasting 60 to 90 minutes. This includes the clinical assessment, written diagnostic report and first prescription if medication is recommended for ADHD. We accept self-pay. Work with major health insurers. Please contact us to confirm whether your specific policy covers ADHD assessment before booking.
In-person ADHD assessment?
We offer both in-person appointments for ADHD. Virtual assessments are conducted via a video platform and follow exactly the same clinical process as an in-person appointment resulting in the same full written report. Virtual appointments are available to patients across the UK not those in London.
In-person appointments are available at our clinic at 10 Harley Street, London W1G 9PF for ADHD.
